That is the bare minimum of what it takes to be modern. But as a world, we resemble America a whole lot more than Canada or Europe. Americans don’t have healthcare or education or income or clean energy as human rights — because one fanatical side of their broken politics won’t let them, it only thinks guns and Bibles matter. That’s where we are as a world, too — we don’t invest nearly enough in the things we will need tomorrow, and so Existential Threats are rising like a black tide of catastrophe.

As of the 2008 financial crisis, this figure was increased from 50% to 75%. Maintaining an investment rate of 50% is not helpful because it will encourage austerity measures. As you probably know, austerity measures lead to poverty which in turn results in neofascist governments rising to power.
