Austerity measures implemented by many countries in response to the 2008 financial crisis caused spocieties to become sociopathic. Remember that austerity measures lead to poverty which lead to fascism. How many times do people have to remember that many Canadian provinces began implementing austerity measures on their health and social services beginning in the mid-1990s? Many Canadians believe that this never happened. Every Canadian province from Alberta to Quebec recently accelerated health and social austerity measures during a pandemic, which is going to cause increases in poverty albeit at a smaller rate than America. Most of the democratic institutions Canada built during its confederation are weakening considerably at a slower rate, but that is not going to prevent Canada from making that country a sociopathic society in the coming months. What if people were told that the European Union was the best thing to ever happen to Europe via its investment in health and social services? Well those services have been slowly decaying for quite some time, and the European sovereign debt crisis caused many European governments to implement austerity measures. More sociopathic governments have been elected in countries like Hungary, Slovakia, some regions of Spain, and Poland. Greece's economic crisis is going to hurt the union much more than what happened with the United States back in 2008.
