I read several articles about these shortages that were written by economic collapse writer Michael Snyder. His book known as Lost Prophecies of the Future of America is very important in that it explains in detail how a major economic collapse would affect global civilization and America in general. There are two main issues that are not explained in this article that share an equal amount of importance with the shortage issues.
The first such issue is the increase in corporate debt levels since the Reagan-Thatcher era began. Before the 2008 economic crisis, many companies in America were borrowing at low interest rates, a trend that accelerated in the 2010s. The borrowing caused an expansion of corporate debt so that it would exceed the size of the country's economic investments. As of early 2021, $11.2 trillion in corporate debt has been incurred by the country, and this amount is expected to double by the end of the 2020s. High amounts of corporate debt are not sustainable, as this will cause many companies to file for bankruptcy and cease operations even if the companies themselves were bailed out by the federal government. In some cases, banking institutions that are too big to fail actually file for bankruptcy, and that alone would cause the entire financial system and the US economy to collapse.
The second issue is that climate change is actually causing the rate of production of resources to decline, which is the main reason why the shortages are happening in the first place. In order for production of goods and services to take place, nonrenewable resources are required to be used. Since 1900, humans have expolited many nonrenewable resources in order to produce the goods and services that are necessary for a global civilization to function properly. As the nonrenewable resources run out, production of goods and services actually diminishes over time. Without enough goods and services, the population stagnates and then declines, so the decreasing amount of resources plays a big factor in how the future of our civilization will affect us. The main side effect of this is that more infectious diseases will be coming at us at more frequent intervals, and as a result herd immuntiy via infection can only happen when the vast majority of the human population perishes.
