In New York State, tough gun control legislation was passed following the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting. However, we need every state to pass this legislation and we need every state to ban assault weapons and handguns in order to fix this problem. The repeal of the federal assault weapons ban by the GOP and the Supreme Court in the 2000s set us back.
