We didn’t Europeanize the world. We Americanized it. I want to stress I don’t mean that in a neocolonial sense, as some kind of project of cultural domination. I just mean in terms of a social contract, an economic model. Because we didn’t Europeanize the world, we don’t have a single functioning global system. Our world is like America — a place without any functioning systems, where people have to battle just to survive, and if they don’t, or can’t, well, too bad — they die.
