America’s always only ever been one tiny, tiny step away from fascism. America’s fascists are so dangerous because they know it. To bring fascism to Europe? You’d have to run a marathon of wrecking social democracies — which is why, for example, German social democracy has just proven resistant to fascism yet again, extremist parties being kept in check. In America? You’d barely have to shake a leg for fascism to return.
