That is correct. Canadian style socialism began to decline in the late 1990s after implementation of austerity measures by the provincial governments despite recommendations not to do so by the central government. The 2008 financial crisis caused austerity measures to be implemented by the cabinet of Stephen Harper. Justin Trudeau's cabinet continued them and as a result fascist parties were elected to power in five Canadian provinces between 2017 and 2020 due to increases in poverty that caused the white working class to stop supporting the Liberal and New Democratic parties of the country.
