This week I read a story about how a transgender girl from Tennessee who was expelled from school for not using the boy's bathroom while at school was sent to foster care by law enforcement. What made it worse was that she was caught while she was doing a live stream of Minecraft on Twitch, a platform that I used from the fall of 2017 until March 2022. The streamer's username was VioWynn, and the police should have not taken her away from her parents. Laws that force transgender people under the age of 18 to medically detransition are unacceptable in any country, especially the United States. Similar proposals are on the books in some European countries, including Hungary and Poland, which recently adopted anti-abortion laws. There were three transgender girls that I encountered on the platform that live in the same town (Dani Jones, Luna Hancock, and Winter Corvus) and the decision to send a transgender girl to foster care without the consent of her parents is extremely devastating. Twitch itself has begun to crack down on transgender streamers using the platform and has terminated several of these streamers for unexplained reasons, which resulted in my decision to permanently leave Twitch at the end of March 2022.
