Trumpism expanded into Canada shortly after Trump was elected, and this was because of austerity measures that were implemented by many Canadian provincial governments in the 20 years preceding this that caused increases in poverty over time. As a result, Doug Ford was elected in June 2018 as premier of Ontario, and François Legault was elected in October of that year as premier of Quebec with the PC of Ontario and the CAQ of Quebec taking power despite losing the popular vote in both elections. Trumpism expanded to Alberta in 2019 after the PCA and the Wildrose party merged to form the UCP two years earlier, and that party obtained a massive majority in that year's election which made Jason Kenney premier of Alberta. We are now seeing Trumpism expand across Latin America with the elections of figures such as Bolsonaro and Lasso since 2018.
